Cities and commuter towns across Britain are in the grip of a skyscraper boom as population growth and a shortage of homes trigger a wave of ­proposed high-rise towers.


The skylines of Manchester, Bristol, Newcastle and Cardiff are among those set to be transformed as developers propose towers far taller than the existing buildings.
